Alpharetta stayed in it until the end, but Pope pulled away late in a 4-3 victory on Friday. The game was tied at three with Pope batting in the top of the seventh when Buddy Floyd singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Alpharetta fired up the offense in the first inning, when Justin Kirby hit a solo homer.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Alpharetta tied things up at three. Nadir Lewis drove in one when he singled.
18 took the win for Pope. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out two. Harris East and Scotty LeSieur entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. LeSieur recorded the last out to earn the save for Pope.
Anthony Gauthier took the loss for Alpharetta. He allowed one run on zero hits and walked one.
Reid Robertson started the game for Pope. He went four innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out six. Drew Beiger started the game for Alpharetta. He lasted four innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out two and walking zero.
Kirby, Lewis, Santiago Montiel, and Jack Barone each managed one hit to lead Alpharetta.
Ian Hancock went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Pope in hits.
