Alpharetta Raiders Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 10-3 loss to Greenbrier on Wednesday. Greenbrier took the lead on a groundout in the first inning.
The Alpharetta Raiders Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Greenbrier, giving up ten runs.
Greenbrier got on the board in the first inning when Jackson Hodnick grounded out, scoring two runs.
Greenbrier scored six runs in the fifth inning. Greenbrier’s big inning was driven by singles by Ashton Thomas and Zach Thurman and a double by John Waters.
Bryce Melear led the Greenbrier to victory on the hill. He lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out ten. Noah Cunningham threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Sam Stratton took the loss for Alpharetta Raiders Varsity. He lasted four and a third innings, allowing six hits and seven runs while striking out four.
Alpharetta Raiders Varsity tallied one home run on the day. Drew Beiger had a four bagger in the seventh inning.
Justin Kirby, Ben Browning, Santiago Montiel, and Beiger each collected one hit to lead Alpharetta Raiders Varsity.
Greenbrier scattered nine hits in the game. Matthew Chester, Parker Sewell, and Thurman each racked up multiple hits for Greenbrier.
