Alpharetta Raiders Varsity defeated Greenbrier 12-4 on Thursday thanks in part to Santiago Montiel, who drove in five runners. Montiel drove in runs on a home run in the third, a in the fourth, a triple in the fifth, and a home run in the seventh.
Alpharetta Raiders Varsity earned the victory despite allowing Greenbrier to score three runs in the first inning. Greenbrier scored its runs on a double by Jackson Hodnick.
Greenbrier got things moving in the first inning. Hodnick doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs.
After Alpharetta Raiders Varsity scored one run in the top of the sixth, Greenbrier answered with one of their own. Alpharetta Raiders Varsity scored when Jack Barone singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Greenbrier then answered when Parker Sewell’s sac fly scored one run for Greenbrier.
Alpharetta Raiders Varsity pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Montiel was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, Justin Kirby singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, and Ben Browning singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
Alpharetta Raiders Varsity put up four runs in the fifth inning. Montiel, Kirby, and Drew Beiger each had RBIs in the frame.
Cole Hamel was credited with the victory for Alpharetta Raiders Varsity. He lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out five.
Jackson Rosier took the loss for Greenbrier. He went four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on ten hits and striking out four.
Alpharetta Raiders Varsity smacked two home run on the day. Montiel went for the long ball in the third and seventh innings.
Alpharetta Raiders Varsity collected 15 hits on the day. Beiger, Montiel, Noah Mendlinger, Matthew Wilson, and Kirby each racked up multiple hits for Alpharetta Raiders Varsity. Montiel and Beiger each managed three hits to lead Alpharetta Raiders Varsity. Alpharetta Raiders Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Beiger had the most chances in the field with eight.
John Waters led Greenbrier with two hits in four at bats.
