Using a balanced scoring attack and excellent defense, the Alpharetta Lady Raiders basketball team sent the Lady Knights of Centennial High School to defeat by a score of 55-31 to begin Region play in 2017. Building upon a 2-1 Grayson Holiday Tournament record, the Lady Raiders’ record stands at 10-6 overall, and 6-1 in the Region.
Lead by Croix Bethune’s 15 points and Jalyn Tillerson’s 9, the Lady Raiders used a combination of sharp-shooting and tough defense to keep the Lady Knights off balance all evening. Juju Maduka added 8 points and 12 rebounds, while sister Gogo contributed a 7 and 7 performance. Grace Knutsen added 5 points, Chandler Davis 4, Kendall Phillips 3 and Mahima Sangtani and Erica Campbell 2 each to round out the scoring.
In Junior Varsity play, Jordan Shambry delivered her first double double of the season, leading the JV Lady Raiders to a 47-13 victory. The Lady Raiders erupted for 30 second half points to turn a close game into a runaway. A season high 12 assists, with 4 each from Georgia Lingerfelt and Naz Martinez contributed to easy buckets, as did opportunistic offensive rebounding by Jordan with 11 and Abbey Morgan with 7.
Eight Lady Raiders scored in the contest led by Jordan Shambry’s 14 points. Abbey Morgan pounded in 8, and Georgia Lingerfelt and Mahima Sangtani both delivered 6. Lauren Erickson added 5, Naz Martinez contributed 4 and Natalie Camera and Abby Clark sunk 2 points each. Key contributions were also made by Erica Campbell, who grabbed 5 rebounds, while Sasha Hanrahan had 2 steals and 2 boards.
