Learn more about Director of Boys Tennis, Staci Otto.
Coach Staci Otto grew up in LaPorte, Indiana where she was recently inducted into her high school’s Athletic Hall Of Fame. Staci was the first female to achieve this honor. She attended the University of Wyoming on a full volleyball scholarship and was a four-year starter and team captain during her junior and senior years. She was twice named all-conference and winner of Wyoming’s first Mental Attitude Award. After four years at Wyoming, she transferred to Purdue University and graduated with a degree in Physical Education and Health.
Staci’s passion for tennis started at age four. She began competing regionally at six and continued competing through high school where she played #1 singles and doubles. Staci was the MVP during her senior year and all-conference her junior and senior years, qualifying for Indiana’s state tournament. Her senior year was also the driving force behind her coaching philosophy. After suffering a near career and life-ending injury at seventeen, when she broke her neck, she was told that she would never compete in contact sports again. Her parents left the decision up to her and she decided that she would take the risk and continue to compete. That challenge and life lesson became the foundational principle of her coaching career.
As a result, Staci believes that every point should be played as if it were match point and that her athletes can learn to commit to pushing themselves to go the extra mile while refusing to accept the word “can’t”. The match is truly never over until it is over. But that kind of individual commitment can only come from a team culture that’s supportive enough to make every member of the team and community feel valued. That’s why Staci’s work ethic and high standards have always proved to be so contagious!
As a multi-sport competitor, Staci has also had the privilege of coaching many sports, including tennis, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, and cross-country. She began teaching tennis after graduating from high school by working with aspiring tennis players from the ages of 3 to 80! Staci has coached tennis at the JV, Varsity and Middle School levels for girls, boys, and co-ed teams in Indiana, Florida and New York. No wonder then, that she is excited to join the Alpharetta High School family and continue her athletic and coaching journey!
